"Community Police and School Safety"

Minute of Aiki Extensions, Inc. Miniconference
(At the National Conference on Peacemaking and Conflict Resolution, May 1999)

Recommendation:

In order to facilitate the appropriate application and development of aiki methods within enforcement agencies, and because of new feasibility with new money and energy in both school and community policing, the miniconference group believes that information gathering and a strategy to influence policy would be worthwhile for Aiki Extensions.

The objective would be to develop a national standard for non-violence training in school security peace officer training with aiki methods as its core.

Therefore, we recommend that Aiki Extensions, Inc. publish a notice on its list serve to find "a person who has a passion for the objective, has extensive contacts and will organize and implement a strategy in consultation with the Executive Director and the Board of Directors."

Elements of such a strategy might include:

• Development of a policy proposal followed by closely targeted letter writing to key decision makers.
• Conference Panels.
• Testimony and research input to the National Commission on School Safety.
